At the Animal and Plant Health Agency, we safeguard animal and plant health for the benefit of people, the environment and the economy. One of our key responsibilities is to identify, manage and eradicate incidences and outbreaks of endemic and exotic diseases and pests.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a scientific R&D team investigating avian paramyxoviruses. Through internationally significant research, lab-based scientific investigations and bioinformatic data analysis, your work will focus on Newcastle Disease virus and will provide both strategic direction and an evidence base for detection and control across the UK and EU.
Your research will span, pathogenicity, transmission, diagnosis and control. We will look to you to supervise and develop research scientists, project managers, students and visiting scientists. Crucially, you will generate manuscripts to publish data in peer reviewed journals, initiate international collaborations, and write applications to secure grant funding.
To join us in this senior post-doctoral role, you’ll need proven biocontainment laboratory skills plus the ability to manage teams, individuals and budgets. Your scientific expertise spans virology (ideally veterinary), molecular biology – from sequencing to phylogenetics – and both humoral and cellular immunology. We’ll also expect you to be aware of safety and quality systems, such as SAPO/ACDP and ISO17025 & 9001. Excellent presentation skills, both in person and in writing, will be key to your success. In return, you’ll enjoy excellent opportunities to train and progress.
