The Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit, Jakarta (EOCRU) was established in 2007 and conducts basic laboratory, field, and clinical research on tropical infections of public health importance in Indonesia, principally malaria, dengue, typhoid, leptospirosis, and tuberculosis. It is hosted by the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology (EIMB) and is part of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit/Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme led from Vietnam.

In 2014, the University of Oxford and the Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia (FMUI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding creating the Universities of Oxford and Indonesia, Clinical Research Laboratory (OICRL) which is a facility dedicated to supporting collaborative clinical research between the two universities.

We are now seeking a senior and dynamic consultant-level clinician to lead clinical research in OICRL, based in Jakarta. Under the leadership of the Head of EOCRU, the Senior Clinician Scientist will be responsible for developing the academic strategy and clinical research agenda of the OICRL, in addition, to being responsible for the overall development of the relationship between Oxford University and FMUI including its direction and strategy.  

The successful candidate will be a consultant-level (or equivalent) clinician with a PhD in a relevant field. You will have a proven ability to independently lead and develop a clinical research programme and established success in securing funding through external grant applications. You will have experience of leading a multinational, multi-disciplinary team and managing, mentoring and motivating research and operational staff, as well as some experience of financial management. Expertise in clinical trials involving tropical infectious diseases would be desirable.

This post is fixed-term for 3 years in the first instance with potential for renewal.
