Histopathologist / Laboratory Manager

MRC Toxicology Unit

MRC Toxicology Unit

The Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit, located at the University of Leicester, is an internationally renowned institution focussed on the delivery of field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease.  The histology unit is expanding, and houses state-of-the art facilities for research histological methods.

We are looking to appoint a Histopathologist/Laboratory Manager to provide specialist histology support to the laboratory of Dr John Le Quesne and to serve the general histology needs of other research groups within the MRC Toxicology Unit.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent in biomedical science, NHS biomedical science training in histopathology, or an equivalent level of research experience is essential.  Applicants require experience of FFPE tissue preparation and handling, microtomy, and immunohistochemistry, and should have an appetite for learning and optimising new techniques. Further experience with tissue microarrays, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridisation, multiplex immunoassays and automated immunostaining/multispectral imaging would be an advantage.

Applicants should also be able to provide expert advice regarding the choice and optimisation of histological technologies to researchers at all levels and demonstrate good organisational skills to manage resources and ensure work is correctly prioritised to optimise workflow across the various research groups.
