We are seeking an enthusiastic and practical individual with a background in physical activity to join the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle at the University of Bristol. The main purpose of the job is to contribute to the Diabetes and Sedentary Behaviour theme in the BRU, and in particular to take responsibility for the management and conduct of a feasibility study of cycling to increase active travel in people with type 2 diabetes.
Reporting to Professor Ashley Cooper and Dr Angie Page you will work closely with colleagues from the central BRU research team, the community partners involved in the intervention, and study participants, patient and public groups as well as NHS teams. You must, therefore, have excellent communication, time-management and team-working skills.
The successful candidate should have practical experience in qualitative research, such as conducting interviews or focus groups, and will be able to provide evidence of experience of collecting, managing and cleaning both quantitative and qualitative data. Previous experience of evaluating physical activity interventions for adults and experience of working with third sector organisations would be an advantage, but are not essential. An understanding of and enthusiasm for active travel would also be an advantage.
Whilst most of the work will be focused on planning and co-ordinating the feasibility study, there will be opportunities for the successful applicant to contribute to publications, prepare conference presentations and teach as appropriate to their interests and expertise.
