Research Support Officer/Research Support Assistant – Cell Biology

Band Salary – £21,733 to £38,163 per annum

Applications are invited for a 12 month fixed term bioinformatician position in the group of Dr Mario de Bono at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, UK. The LMB is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and is an internationally renowned centre for fundamental biomedical research.

The successful candidate will be appointed, depending on experience and qualifications, as either a Research Support Assistant within a starting salary range £21,733 – £25,463, or as a Research Support Officer within a starting salary range £27,355 – £32,648.

This post will provide bioinformatics expertise in the de Bono Group working within an overall programme that seeks to understand how nervous systems control behaviour and physiology. They will also provide bioinformatics support for other LMB groups beginning to use next generation sequencing.

Candidates appointed in the Research Support Officer role must hold a PhD in a relevant biological subject. Candidates must also have experience using UNIX, R, Perl or Python in addition to significant bioinformatics experience in analysing next generation sequencing data – genomes and transcriptomes.

Candidates appointed in the Research Support Assistant role must hold a degree or the equivalent in a relevant subject e.g. biology, bioinformatics, computer science supplemented with biology. Candidates must also have experience of projects analysing next generation sequencing data.
