Applications are invited for a Research Associate position starting from August 2015.

You will join Dr Colin Crump’s laboratory to investigate the role of viral tegument proteins of alphaherpesviruses during early stages of infection. The post will be within the Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge, and located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Candidates should have a PhD, or expect to obtain one shortly, and have a track record of success in virology and/or cell biology research. Relevant experience in cell culture, molecular biology techniques and fluorescence microscopy imaging is essential. Prior experience in handling biosafety level 2 material, mass spectrometry-based proteomics techniques, or super-resolution microscopy would be advantageous.

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills are required. The duties/responsibilities of this post include developing and driving research objectives, writing up work for presentation and publication, assisting in the supervision of student research projects, and delivering seminars and occasional lectures as outlined in the Further Information Document.

Where the successful applicant does not yet have a PhD, you will normally be under-appointed as a Research Assistant in a Research Associate post (on the understanding that you will be appointed as a Research Associate upon successful completion of your PhD). The higher Research Associate salary should be backdated to the submission date of their thesis.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years or until 31 July 2018 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
