Postdoctoral Research Associate – Pharmaceutical Sciences

A postdoctoral position is available in the field of pharmacogenomics in the lab of William Evans at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The long term goals of the Evans lab are to elucidate genomic determinants of drug response in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and translate these findings into precision medicine approached to improve treatment of childhood ALL and other cancers by enhancing efficacy and/or reducing toxicity. The NIH-funded discovery work in the lab focuses on elucidation of germline and somatic genetic and epigenetic variations that are important determinants of the disposition and effects of antileukemic agents. Genome-wide approaches are used to interrogate variants related to drug response in patients, and candidate genes are further explored in mechanistic studies in laboratory and pre-clinical models. Clinical and translational studies are performed in the context of well-controlled clinical trials, with substantial collaborations amongst basic scientists, statisticians and clinicians at St. Jude, with the Children’s Oncology Group, CALGB/Alliance, and ECOG/ACRIN, and with international collaborators. The lab is funded by long-standing NIH (R37, RO1) grants (WE Evans PI), by a P50 Center of Precision Medicine for Leukemia grant from NIGMS (MV Relling, PI), and by an NCI P30 Comprehensive Cancer Center grant (S Baker, PI).
