Biopharm Innovation is the part of GSK‘s Biopharm R&D group focused on identifying and developing novel biopharmaceutical technologies to enable the creation of future medicines. These next generation technologies may come either from within GSK, or from the wider R&D community. Our current areas of focus include the development of bispecific antibodies, as well as aspects of cell and gene therapy.
The successful candidate will join Biopharm Innovation (initially in Protein Sciences) as part of the group specifically supporting cell and gene therapy applications. The group comprises molecular biologists, protein biochemists and bioanalysts, working as part of a closely integrated team with the lead discovery and biology groups supporting pre-clinical evaluation of gene therapeutics, and with the CMC team to ensure progression of developable assets.
You will have a strong molecular biology background and will be responsible for the for the design and optimisation of lentiviral and plasmid DNA constructs to support pre-clinical projects. You will lead a team working in close collaboration with key stakeholders in the unit and other analytical R&D groups to develop novel technologies and approaches to meet future transduction vector needs and associated analytical demands. This role will be pivotal in the smooth progression of leads from discovery processes to support pre-clinical evaluation, ensuring that the leads be smoothly progressed into development.
The ability to innovate and form productive interactions with scientists across GSK will be key skills for success in this role. You will be expected to maintain knowledge of current scientific literature relevant to the role.
