Salary: £41,153 to £45,872 per annum with additional performance related pay up to £57,340 per annum

Water is one of eight themes at Cranfield and Cranfield Water Science Institute (CWSI) has an international reputation for its transformational research and teaching in the science, engineering and management of water in the municipal, industrial and natural environments. We have been working in water for over 40 years. Our academic and research staff, including scientists, engineers, technologists, policy specialists and social scientists are engaged in delivering postgraduate teaching, research, consultancy and training in an international arena.
The university has a growing reputation in Public Health Engineering through its leading edge research in water and wastewater treatment. This has principally focused on the microbiological quality of drinking water as water companies strive to achieve zero microbiological failures in drinking water. Our activities in this area include the development of diagnostic tools to rapidly evaluate microbial quality in drinking water, risk management processes for controlling water quality, novel disinfection strategies and the influence of water quality parameters on disinfection efficacy. The new appointment will be expected to extend and further develop our offer in water treatment and public health, working across the fields of water and wastewater treatment in both high and low income country contexts.
You will provide research and teaching contributions to well-established drinking water and wastewater treatment teams within CWSI. The appointee will be expected to rapidly embed themselves within CWSI’s existing teaching and research activities, adapt to the Institute’s ethos, make significant contributions to the MSc courses on the Water Programme and generate significant research and teaching income through leading large grant bids and organising short courses.
You will have a PhD or EngD Degree in a field related to Public Health Engineering (ideally with a strong microbiology focus, applied in drinking water and/or wastewater), a growing track record of winning and delivering research projects sponsored by both the public and private sectors, a strong peer-reviewed publication track record and experience of teaching and supervision at post-graduate level. Your experience should have provided you with a deep understanding of the public health challenges faced by the water sector. You should understand how public health approaches in water supply and sanitation can be applied across high and low income settings. We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written communication skills who is comfortable and confident dealing with senior colleagues and research sponsors.
