The Position:
The Drug Safety Research Unit (DSRU) is seeking to recruit a Head of Education and Training to manage DSRU Education and Research Ltd (DSRU E&R). DSRU E&R is one of the leading providers of education and training in pharmacovigilance in Europe and also offers postgraduate programmes in Pharmacovigilance in association with the University of Portsmouth.
What qualifications and qualities do I need?
- Good university degree, preferably in biomedical sciences, though applicants with other relevant backgrounds will be considered
- Experience in a training role is desirable though not necessary
- An interest in education and training
- Well-developed project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure
In addition, the successful applicant will be required to be a confident networker, self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
Main responsibilities
- Manage running of current training courses
- Liaise with current and prospective speakers from the pharmaceutical industry and medicines regulators
- Inject own ideas into development of business development plan with the Director
- Develop new training opportunities
- Marketing of training courses and postgraduate programmes
- Have a hands-on approach: visit pharmaceutical companies to establish whether E&R training meets their needs
- Manage running of academic courses in Pharmacovigilance in association with University of Portsmouth and other institutions

The (DSRU) in Southampton is a leading research unit that monitors the safety of marketed medicines. The Unit is associated with the University of Portsmouth and has a high national and international profile. DSRU E&R was established in 2001 to maintain and raise the standards of pharmacovigilance by providing training of high academic standards at low cost.
Conditions:
This is a full-time position. Salary will be in the region of £31,000 to £40,000 per annum depending on experience. A higher salary will be paid to outstanding candidates with relevant experience.
