The UNC HIV Cure Center in the Institute of Global Health and Infectious Disease, Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for Open Rank tenure/tenured track faculty position. The UNC HIV Cure Center is a partnership between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and GlaxoSmithKline. The UNC HIV Cure Center, directed by Dr. David Margolis, is focused on the discovery, development, and implementation of new treatments to allow durable treatment-free remission of HIV infection (cure). This incredibly unique public-private partnership is redefining the traditional way of conducting research and is creating a new model to seek the breakthroughs needed to tackle this extraordinarily challenging global health issue.

The successful candidate/s must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree and a track record of rigorous lab-based research demonstrated by an outstanding publication record and the proven ability to establish a successful independent research program. In addition, Associate/Full Professor level applicants are expected to have extramural funding and an established national reputation as a leader in their field. All applicants must have a research focus in the study of HIV persistence (latency mechanisms, immune response, drug development, viral clearance, novel assays, approaches, and therapeutics). Excellent teaching skills in both didactic and interactive teaching styles are highly desirable.

Applicants should be seeking a stimulating, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment in which to pursue teaching and research. The successful candidate may have his/her primary appointment as appropriate in the Institute of Global Health and Infectious Disease, the Eshelman School of Pharmacy or Department of Medicine. Importantly, promising candidates will be recruited in consultation with appropriate basic science departments at this outstanding research university. UNC-CH possesses a world-renowned Pharmacology, Cell Biology and Physiology, Genetics, Bioengineering and Chemistry departments, among others.
