Cell Biologist, Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Sr. Scientist (PhD)

Biostage is a pioneering biotechnology company in the emerging field of regenerative medicine.
The company’s novel Cellframe™ technology is engineered to stimulate the body’s signaling pathways and natural healing process to regenerate and restore organ function. Cellframe technology combines the best attributes of a synthetic scaffold with tissue engineering and cell biology to create what may be a revolutionary method of addressing organ damage. Our goal is to help regenerate and restore organ function of the esophagus, trachea and bronchus.

We are seeking outstanding scientists to join our R&D team isolating, propagating and characterizing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for bioengineered replacement organs. We are passionate about improving the treatment of patients suffering from esophageal cancer, central lung cancer and life threatening conditions of the trachea. The successful candidate will share our passion and embrace our values of innovation, patient focus, perseverance, courage and respect. Ideal candidates will have a strong track record of scientific productivity, organizational skills and contributing to interdisciplinary teams in industry.

We are looking for experts in R&D, pre-clinical and clinical programs. The full-time role will focus on project development using tissue culture, cell biology and molecular biology techniques. The scientist will be responsible for the production and characterization of consistently high quality MSC cultures using standard operating protocols. He/she will have a high level of responsibility to design, execute and analyze experiments, and collaborate with internal and external partners. He/she will also participate in collaborations with academic laboratories. The position will be located in Holliston, MA.

Perform and report experiments using tissue isolation and cell culture techniques for MSCs. Candidate will be highly organized and effective communicator within our organization and across external collaborations. Furthermore, we value future team members who can adapt and respond to changing business demands.

Our candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Cell Biology or related fields with expertise in industry. Extensive hands-on experience with isolating, propagating and characterizing MSCs is essential for these positions. We prefer our candidates to have at least 2 years of industrial experience, preferably in applied research related to product development for tissue regeneration or cell therapies.

o PhD in cell biology or related discipline, and at least 2 years post-doctoral experience
o High level of experience with stem cell research, cell-based assays, cell culture process development and histology
o Demonstrated excellence in planning, executing, and analyzing experiments
o Innovative scientist able to troubleshoot, solve challenging problems, improve processes, be detail oriented and maintain excellent records
o Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write technical reports and protocols, excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects

o Hands-on experience with MSC research, cell differentiation and tissue specific markers
o Experience and knowledge of regenerative medicine and cell therapy
o Prior industrial experience in cell culture and process development, including improvement in cellular yield, reproducibility and purity characteristics of products
