A unique opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic Research Associate within the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) to directly support the Institute Director Professor Dame Pamela Shaw’s programme of research into Motor Neuron Disease/ Neurodegeneration. You will work directly with Professor Shaw and closely with members of her research team to provide essential support including: timely reviews of the current literature in the field; collating research data; the writing of concise research reports; preparation of research documents and PowerPoint slide presentations for research meetings. You will also take an active role in liaising with researchers in the team and other scientific collaborators regarding research project progress and following up on action points from the weekly laboratory meetings. You will need to demonstrate a keen interest in neurodegenerative disease research with up to date research and technical knowledge in the fields of molecular and cellular neurobiology as well as genetics. For this role we will require an adaptable and enthusiastic individual, with a genuine interest in translational research and a flair for scientific writing.

You will be a forward thinking and enthusiastic individual who possesses excellent communication skills and the ability to act with discretion and diplomacy. Project management and organisational skills are essential for this role, underpinned by strong IT skills. We are looking for candidates who will have a real commitment to the role, and who have a good track record of working on their own initiative, a sense of passion for the scientific research community with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You will have excellent team working skills as well as the ability to problem solve. Knowledge of the field of Neuroscience will be advantageous.

The post will be based in the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (http://sitran.dept.shef.ac.uk/) at the University of Sheffield and will be supervised by Professor Dame Pamela Shaw (Pamela.Shaw@sheffield.ac.uk).
