Working closely with a newly appointed BBSRC Research Fellow in Wheat Pathogenomics. We have an opportunity to appoint a part time (50%) Research Assistant for 2 years.

With the team based in Harpenden you will assist in research aimed at identifying how a fungal pathogen senses the environment and coordinates its disease causing ability on wheat plants. The research outcomes may be useful for the future development of novel disease control strategies.

The successful candidate must have experience in fungal cultivation, handling experimental plant materials (preferably in a pathology context) and knowledge of aseptic techniques. You will possess a BSc or MSc degree or equivalent in a relevant area, and will have good DNA and RNA molecular biology skills, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR and cloning. Excellent communication skills and the ability to prepare summary reports, plus the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, are also required.

The post will initially be 18.5 hours per week for a 2 year duration. Salary normally in the range of £24,225 to £26,573 per annum (pro-rata of £12,112 to £13,286 per annum). This is a exciting opportunity and applications are invited from suitably qualified research scientists with the appropriate skills, preferably supported by evidence of contributions to relevant research publications.
