Eligibility:  PhD in a relevant discipline with up to 3 years’ (max.) relevant experience. 

Post Duration: 50 Months
Location: Cork

Training Rate: The current PD1 scale is as follows:

  • PD1: €33,975 (min.); €34,974; €36,003 (max.)
  • PD2: €38,155 (min.); €39,279; €40,437 (max.)

Basic Function of the post: To undertake and disseminate the research relating to genomic predictions of economically important traits in Irish dairy and beef cattle using (imputed) whole genome sequence data on over 250,000 animals

Research will include the identification of the most informative animals for sequencing, the generation of genotypes from the sequenced data and the development of the appropriate statistical methodology for the efficient and effective generation of accurate genomic predictions. Research on how best to develop genomic mating plans will also be an integral part of this project               

Background: The Teagasc post-doctoral programme provides training and development opportunities for early career scientists that enhances their experience of learning and equips them with the necessary skills for the next stage of their chosen career in research. 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • PhD in animals breeding and genetics
  • Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years’ post-PhD
  • Demonstrated research and technical expertise in animal breeding and genetics and computer programming

Desirable:

  • Experience in animal breeding and genetics
  • Experience in computer programming and handling of genomic data
