There is now substantial evidence that diseases associated with aging including cardiovascular and metabolic disease have their origins in early development. The results of recent studies in our group show that altered epigenetic regulation of genes is involved and that these changes can be passed to subsequent generations. Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary group using molecular biology and physiological techniques to investigate the epigenetic mechanism by which differences in energy intake induces disease-related phenotypes in offspring that are transmitted between generations. This project is funded by the European Commission 7th Framework Programme collaborative project ‘Integrated Research on Developmental Determinants of Aging and Longevity (IDEAL)’ (Grant Agreement 259679).
You will be based primarily in the Institute of Developmental Sciences Building at Southampton General Hospital. You should have a PhD in molecular biology or equivalent. Experience of state-of-the-art epigenetic techniques is essential. It is anticipated that the post will be taken up in August 2015. The post is available for up to 6 months in the first instance.
Informal enquires may be made to Dr Graham Burdge (g.c.burdge@southampton.ac.uk) or Professor Karen Lillycrop (k.a.lillycrop@southampton.ac.uk).
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
Interviews to be held in the morning of the 24 July 2015.
