Recognized as a world leader of genomic research in pediatric cancer, the Computational Biology department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is currently seeking exceptional and creative scientists for multiple POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE positions to develop and apply innovative analytical and visualization approaches for studying the genome and epigenome of pediatric cancer. The fellows will have access to a wealth of resources including high-quality data, a state-of-art high-performance computing facility, robust analytical pipelines, the latest laboratory technology and research expertise in genomics, cancer biology, mathematics and computer science. The fellows will lead or participate in all aspects of cancer omics studies via multi-disciplinary teamwork and have opportunities to interact with leaders of pediatric cancer and translational research within and outside the institution. Innovative research leading to high-impact scientific publication is highly encouraged and supported by the departmental research infrastructure. For those with ambitious career goals including those with no prior computing experience, inter-disciplinary training will be provided to broaden or strengthen computational or biological expertise. The appointment will be for 2-5 years, depending on the candidate’s goals, qualifications and productivity.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position (Job # 34109) is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Jinghui Zhang, Chair of the Department of Computational Biology, to develop innovative visualization for our pediatric cancer genomic data portal initiative (https://pecan.stjude.org/proteinpaint/). We are looking for a talented and highly motivated candidate to join our scientific visualization team to design and implement novel features and to expand the data content. The postdoc will interact with the clinical genomics team and other translational research teams to ensure broad applicability of the visualization tools for in research and clinical studies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background with high-throughput data analysis and interest in data visualization. Prior experience in developing scientific visualization tools is a highly preferred. A candidate with PhD in Computer Science but no prior experience in cancer research will be considered, but should have strong interest in cancer research and motivation to learn cancer genomic data analysis. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position (Job # 35345) is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Jinghui Zhang, Chair of the Department of Computational Biology, to study tumor clonal evolution of pediatric cancer. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated candidate who will further our ongoing research in developing clonal evolution models based on the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Zhang and senior-level scientists in her lab to map clonal evolution trajectory using DNA and RNA sequencing data generated from serial samples of bulk or single-cell tumor specimen. The successful candidate will have expertise in cancer biology or evolution biology with a strong interest in quantitative data analysis. Computer programming skills are preferred and interest or experience in data visualization is a plus. The candidate is expected to be a critical thinker, a quick learner for new analytical approaches and capable to apply or develop novel computational methods for solving complex problems. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position (Job # 35262) is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Jinghui Zhang, Chair of the Department of Computational Biology, for a highly motivated candidate to work on an NIH-funded P50 grant as part of the precision medicine center established in collaboration with the Departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pathology. The postdoc will interact with the genomic discovery and visualization team in the Department of Computational Biology to receive training and eventually contribute new insight in these two areas. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and working experience in cancer biology or high-throughput data analysis with genetic data. Experience in both areas is highly desirable. Requirements include attention to detail, the ability to recognize potentially remarkable results or outliers, interest in investigating new data analysis approaches and the ability to effectively communicate and present scientific findings to a diverse team of scientists. Prior experience in programming and scripting is a plus.
