A message from an all-girl Year 9 robotics team – Please help if you can

Off

We are two all-girl Year 9 robotics teams from The Henrietta Barnett School in North London, looking for sponsorship

We, along with another 5 teams, are member of our school robotics club and every year our school takes part in the VEX IQ robotics competitions. This teaches us team working skills, engineering, programming and design skills and encourages an interest in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) which is seen as a major priority for women because these are normally male dominated areas.

This year, our school has again been incredibly successful in the UK regional competition rounds and we have managed to get three teams through to the World Championships that take place in Kentucky, USA in April 2017. In the VEX Robotics competitions, teams of students are tasked with designing, building and programming a robot to compete against other teams from around the world in an engineering type challenge. There are currently only 4 teams from the UK taking part and 3 of them are from our school. In total there are 275 teams from around the world and so it will also be a fantastic opportunity to represent Great Britain at this event.

Unfortunately, we cannot take part in the world championship without your help. The cost of this trip is in excess of 6,000 per team. The money is needed to cover our costs such as flights, accommodation, food and the not insignificant $850 registration fee.

This means that we need to raise almost 20,000 so that we can all go. We are therefore trying to raise money and get sponsors that can assist us to get to Kentucky in order to represent our school and the UK.
We would be really grateful if you would consider our request and were able to contribute to our fundraising, perhaps through any Corporate Social Responsibility or other Community programmes that you operate. We believe that it is important to try to change the portrayal of women in the STEM industries and hope that you do too. Unfortunately with only 5 weeks to go, time is of the essence.

If you are able to contribute or sponsor our teams we will be more than happy to provide any credits to your company or brand in any way we can. Any donations can be made to the schools registered charity and should be tax deductible and any personal donations should attract Gift Aid for personal UK tax payers. Further details of our school and the charity are enclosed. We have also enclosed some further information on our teams and on VEX robotics.

Thank you in advance for your support. If you would like some more details please do not hesitate to contact us Ben Freeman
