Ideally you’ll have a scientific editorial background and be looking to move away from day to day operational editorial work or with a Talent Acquisition/Sourcing background specialising in the scientific industry or with scientific academic background. Using your expertise you’ll know what attracts and drives this talent group and will confidently be “the face” for our global editorial recruitment at external career events such as Nature Career Expo and other key events/conferences.
Main focus of the role
•Working across regions to manage, support and input into a clear sourcing strategy to attract the best editorial talent to our Nature branded journals.
•Build network and develop partners to feed recruitment pipeline for Editorial talent from Academia and publishing sources. This would include developing strong links between top universities in our core regions and supporting local HR to utilise these to fill live vacancies. This role would also be expected to maintain regular contact with talent in the pipeline.
•Be the face for Global editorial recruitment at external career events such as Nature Career Expo but also other such events/ conferences to attract PhD students and postdocs candidates.
•Working closely with editorial, attend and present at Career talks at universities, institutions and conferences in order to attract scientists with an interest in an editorial career
•Utilise internal resources such as Nature Index to support any resourcing strategies.
•Working closely with Editorial management, to maintain an awareness of key resourcing avenues and trends within the local marketplaces.
•Ensure an effective partnership with local recruiters/ HR teams as well as universities ambassadors to identify and execute strategic opportunities that will elevate both the Springer Nature and Nature Research Brands in our target markets and where possible promote open positions in these networks
•Input and/or develop a clear attraction and events schedule for each target region to ensure all appropriate opportunities are attended as effectively as possible. As part of this the role is responsible managing relationships with all involved.
•In line with the job family project, build and maintain a core library of job descriptions for roles across the department
•Support local HR teams and Editorial teams in recruitment process as and when necessary and where possible assist in development/design of clear interview framework and steps In conjunction with local HR.
•Build and maintain a pool of good editorial candidates that could fill permanent, temporary and adhoc assignments for the department
•In conjunction with the Director, Recruiting Strategy, develop and maintain an effective pool of high potential candidates with which we implement a staying in touch strategy.
•Support and drive strength in our Employer Brand within the Science Communities in order to attract key talent
•Utilise Social Media where appropriate to attract core talent and promote the brand within the relevant markets.
•Work closely with Editorial to keep abreast of future recruitment needs and expectations in order to plan and support these as efficiently and effectively as possible
•Work closely with the Local HR teams to share insights and recommendations on editorial recruitment processes, where appropriate.
•In conjunction with Global HR Manager maintain KPIs on People within Editorial e.g. time to hire, turnover etc.
•Gather and analyse relevant competitive information
Secondary focus of role
Promote Editorial Talent and Careers
•In cooperation with the VP HR work on the support of careers for Editorial Staff within NRG Journals
•Make sure with Local HR that career opportunities are globally transparent and support internal careers in that respect
•Working with VP Talent Development and Performance and editorial management to define and develop clear training programmes for new Editorial staff within N/Reviews, Nature RJS, Nature Communications and Nature.
•Working with Global HR and VP Talent Development and editorial staff amend and, develop training programmes in line with the job family project to help visibility on career progression opportunities

Experience, skills and qualifications
•Someone from a scientific editorial background looking to move away from day to day operational editorial work
•Someone with Talent Acquisition/Sourcing experience who has either specialised in the scientific industry or who has a scientific academic background
•Experience of recruitment processes and interviewing would be preferable
•Good understanding of online and offline attraction principles for scientific editors
•Strategic thinking with an ability to review and translate situations
•Strong stakeholder communications and ability to influence across cultures
•Excellent communication and networking skills
•Good understanding of social media
•Ability to work with changing environments
•Good experience of operating within an international environment
•Proven ability to work with multiple teams to achieve open and collaborative approaches
•Educated to degree level, but PhD preferable.
