Iowa State University seeks applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Nutritional Sciences at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition with a proposed start date of August 2016. Research expertise in an area complementing the strengths of the department (www.fshn.hs.iastate.edu/faculty-staff/research/) ranging from basic to translational is desired. Excellent opportunities are available for conducting multidisciplinary clinical human trials at the Nutrition and Wellness Research Center (http://nwrc.iastate.edu/). Successful candidates will be expected to: 1) establish a productive research program with strong extramural support; 2) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise; and 3) mentor graduate students. Service on department, college and university committees, and participation in national/international professional organizations is expected.

FSHN is a comprehensive academic program with 33 tenure-track faculty and approximately 600 undergraduate majors in nutritional sciences, food science, culinary science and dietetics. Our graduate programs include MS and PhD options in both Nutritional Sciences (interdepartmental) and Food Technology. ISU is strongly invested in interdisciplinary research and opportunities for collaborative team building are available in food science, toxicology, immunobiology, neuroscience, gerontology, genetics, bioengineering, and molecular biology. ISU supports campus-wide collaborative funding to enhance interdisciplinary research excellence. ISU provides excellent human subject research facilities, experimental animal facilities, cellular and molecular analysis capabilities, metabolomics, flow cytometry, imaging, statistics, and bioinformatics. Applicants must have an earned Doctorate in nutrition, biochemistry or related discipline, evidence of research productivity, postdoctoral research experience, and relevant teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of academic experience in teaching, service, student mentoring, and multidisciplinary research; demonstrated potential for success in obtaining external research funding and collaborative research; publications in recognized journals; and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credentials.
